Going to Spain, especially in Madrid, will not be completed without enjoying Spanish tauromachia or bullfight in Plaza Monumental de las Ventas del Espíritu Santo. Before the spectacle begins, you will be given a guided tour around the stadium which has been existed since the beginning of 20th century. You will be informed deeply about this cultural sport and when the matador is in action, you will feel much more excitement.
What you can expect
Spain is identical with bullfight. Hence, almost every region has historic bullrings that have persisted to maintain this culture from generation to another generation. In Madrid, the most emblematic bullring is Las Ventas from where many celebrated matadors were born. With the capacity up to 23,000 spectators, this bullring offers almost every day jeopardy and adrenalin challenge show of a courage man with red muleta (cloth) against vicious black bull with sharp horns.
Before the show begins, a local expert guide will guide you to explore this international bullring which is inaugurated in 1931. Since then, it has scored many talented and finest matador with high artistry and skill. The architect, José Espeliú designed this magnificent cultural sport site with Neo-Moorish style, especially the side of bric façade. Whilst, the marvelous decoration of 52 glazed plaques with shields reflecting each province of Spain were architected by Manuel Muñoz Monasterio.
You are also privileged to visit tendidos (the four different seating levels), callejón (alley where the bullfighters prepare to take a refuge) and significant gates describing two main elements of the spectacle which are puerta de los participants (matadors) and puerta de los toriles (bulls). An then, when the show is about to begin, you can go to your seat and experience watching this original Spanish tauromachia.
